About the Egypt visa

Egypt is home to the Pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor and Abu Simbel, Nile cruises and Red Sea resorts such as Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh. Indian passport holders can apply for an Egyptian e-Visa online.

The tourist e-Visa allows a stay of up to 30 days and is valid for entry within 90 days of issue. Single and multiple-entry options are available.

Who can apply

• You hold an Indian ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival, with at least two blank pages.
• Indians with a valid US, UK or Schengen visa may also be able to get a visa on arrival.
• Your visit is short-term, such as tourism, a family visit or business meetings. Work, study and residence in Egypt need a different visa.

Required documents

• Passport: Clear colour scan of the bio-data page of your Indian passport, valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival.
• Photograph: Recent passport-size colour photo on a plain white background, as a digital file.
• Flights: Confirmed return or onward ticket showing your dates into and out of Egypt.
• Accommodation: Hotel booking, tour voucher or your host's address and contact details in Egypt.

• Typical time: ~10 days after a complete application is submitted
• Plan ahead: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before you fly to Egypt, and earlier during peak holiday seasons.

Before you travel

• Use only Egypt's official e-Visa portal. Many look-alike websites charge more.
• Sinai resorts such as Sharm El Sheikh may have separate entry rules for short stays.
• The Egyptian pound is the local currency. Carry small notes for tips.
• Keep a printed copy of your approval and a digital copy on your phone. Airlines often check it at check-in for flights to Egypt.
• Travel insurance with medical cover is strongly recommended for every trip to Egypt.
