About the Japan visa

Japan pairs Tokyo's neon-lit streets with Kyoto's temples, Mount Fuji, Osaka's food scene and the cherry blossom season. Indian nationals living in India can now get a Japanese short-term tourist visa as an eVisa, with no sticker in the passport.

The Japan eVisa is a single-entry visa for stays of up to 90 days. You submit documents through the authorised visa application centre, and the visa is issued online and shown on your phone at check-in and on arrival.

Who can apply

  • You hold an Indian ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival, with at least two blank pages.
  • Your visit is short-term, such as tourism, a family visit or business meetings. Work, study and residence in Japan need a different visa.

When accommodation proof is needed, a refundable hotel booking is generally safer than a non-refundable booking.

  • Photograph: Recent passport-size colour photo on a plain white background, as a digital file.

  • Plan ahead: Apply 4–6 weeks before travel, and earlier for cherry blossom (March–April) or autumn leaves (November).
