About the Kenya visa

Kenya is East Africa's classic safari destination, with the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara, Amboseli's views of Kilimanjaro and the beaches of Diani and Lamu. Indian passport holders apply for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) instead of a visa.

The eTA is usually processed within about 6 working days and allows a stay of up to 90 days. It is linked to your passport, so travel on the same passport you used to apply.

Visa options, stays and fees are set by Kenya immigration and can change. We confirm the current options when you enquire.

Who can apply

  • You hold an Indian ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival, with at least two blank pages.
  • Your visit is short-term, such as tourism, a family visit or business meetings. Work, study and residence in Kenya need a different visa.

Accommodation requirement

Usually required

Accommodation booking/details generally required

Accommodation proof is commonly requested.

When accommodation proof is needed, a refundable hotel booking is generally safer than a non-refundable booking.

Required documents

  • Passport: Clear colour scan of the bio-data page of your Indian passport, valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival.
  • Photograph: Recent passport-size colour photo on a plain white background, as a digital file.
  • Flights: Confirmed return or onward ticket showing your dates into and out of Kenya.
  • Accommodation: Hotel booking, tour voucher or your host's address and contact details in Kenya.
  • Accommodation details: Hotel or safari lodge bookings for the whole trip are generally required.

The exact document checklist for Kenya is set by its immigration authorities and can change. Contact VisaAdvisory for guidance specific to your trip, and verify on the official immigration or visa portal before payment or travel.

How to apply

01

Choose the right Kenya visa

Match your trip purpose and length to one of the options above. VisaAdvisory can confirm which one fits your plans.

02

Get your documents ready

Scan your passport, photo, tickets and accommodation details. We check them for mistakes before anything is filed.

03

Submit the application

The application is filed through Kenya's official Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) website, and the government fee is paid online.

04

Track the application

Processing for Kenya usually takes ~6 working days. Reply quickly if the authorities ask for more information.

05

Download and travel

Save and print the approval. Carry it with your passport and show it at check-in and at immigration.

Processing time

  • Typical time: ~6 working days after a complete application is submitted
  • Plan ahead: Apply 2–3 weeks before travel, and earlier for the Great Migration season (July–October).

Before you travel

  • Kenya has banned single-use plastic bags. Do not pack them in your luggage.
  • The Kenyan shilling is the local currency. M-Pesa mobile money is widely used.
  • Kenya is on India's yellow fever list. Carry a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, as India checks it when you return and travellers without one can be quarantined.
  • Keep a printed copy of your approval and a digital copy on your phone. Airlines often check it at check-in for flights to Kenya.
  • Travel insurance with medical cover is strongly recommended for every trip to Kenya.

Important notes

  • Fees and processing times are indicative and can change.
  • eVisa availability does not guarantee approval. The decision rests with the authorities of Kenya.
  • Requirements can change, so verify on the official immigration or visa portal before payment or travel.
  • VisaAdvisory is an independent assistance service and is not affiliated with any government or embassy.
