About the Albania visa

Albania is one of Europe's best-value destinations, with Riviera beaches at Ksamil and Himarë, the old Ottoman towns of Berat and Gjirokastër, and the Albanian Alps. Indian passport holders normally need a short-stay (Type C) visa, which is applied for online through the e-Albania portal.

There is an important shortcut: Indians who hold a valid, previously used multiple-entry Schengen, US or UK visa, or a residence permit from those countries, can usually enter Albania without a separate visa for up to 90 days. VisaAdvisory checks which route applies to you before you spend money on an application.

Who can apply

  • You hold an Indian ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival, with at least two blank pages.
  • You can show enough funds for your stay, usually through recent bank statements.
  • Your visit is short-term, such as tourism, a family visit or business meetings. Work, study and residence in Albania need a different visa.

Accommodation requirement

Usually required

Usually required / accommodation proof

Accommodation proof is commonly requested.

When accommodation proof is needed, a refundable hotel booking is generally safer than a non-refundable booking.

Required documents

  • Passport: Clear colour scan of the bio-data page of your Indian passport, valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival.
  • Photograph: Recent passport-size colour photo on a plain white background, as a digital file.
  • Flights: Confirmed return or onward ticket showing your dates into and out of Albania.
  • Accommodation: Hotel booking, tour voucher or your host's address and contact details in Albania.
  • Bank statements: Last 3–6 months, showing a steady balance that covers your trip.
  • Travel insurance: Medical cover valid for Albania for the full length of your stay.
  • Cover letter: A short letter explaining your itinerary and who is paying for the trip.
  • Employment proof: Leave letter or salary slips if employed, or business registration if self-employed.

The exact document checklist for Albania is set by its immigration authorities and can change. Contact VisaAdvisory for guidance specific to your trip, and verify on the official immigration or visa portal before payment or travel.

Processing time

  • Typical time: ~18 days after a complete application is submitted
  • Note: Albanian authorities can take up to 18 days, and longer in the summer peak (June–August).
  • Plan ahead: Apply at least 4 weeks before travel, especially for June to September trips.

Before you travel

  • In some years Albania has announced seasonal visa-free entry for Indian tourists in summer. Check whether a waiver applies to your travel dates before applying.
  • If you enter on a Schengen, US or UK visa, carry that visa and proof that you have used it before.
  • The Albanian lek is the local currency. Cards work in cities, but carry cash for smaller towns and beaches.
  • Keep a printed copy of your approval and a digital copy on your phone. Airlines often check it at check-in for flights to Albania.
  • Travel insurance with medical cover is strongly recommended for every trip to Albania.

Important notes

  • Fees and processing times are indicative and can change.
  • eVisa availability does not guarantee approval. The decision rests with the authorities of Albania.

Can I enter Albania with my Schengen visa?

In most cases, yes, if it is a valid multiple-entry visa that you have already used to enter the Schengen area. Stays are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period.

Is travel insurance needed for Albania?

Yes. Travel medical insurance covering your whole stay is part of the standard Albanian visa document set.

How long does the Albania visa take?

Usually ~18 days once a complete application is submitted. It can take longer during busy periods or if extra checks are needed, so do not leave it to the last minute.

Is the Albania visa fee refunded if the application is refused?

Government visa fees are generally non-refundable once an application has been submitted, whatever the outcome. Please read our refund policy for details on VisaAdvisory service fees.

Can VisaAdvisory guarantee my Albania visa?

No. The decision rests with the authorities of Albania. We help you submit a complete and accurate application, which avoids the most common causes of delays and refusals.
