About the Azerbaijan visa

Azerbaijan, the 'Land of Fire', offers Baku's old walled city and Flame Towers, mud volcanoes at Gobustan and mountain villages such as Sheki. Indian citizens can get a single-entry electronic visa through the ASAN Visa system, usually within 6 working days.

The e-Visa allows a stay of up to 30 days and is generally valid for entry within 90 days of issue. An urgent option is available for a higher fee if you need it quickly.

Who can apply

• You hold an Indian ordinary passport valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival, with at least two blank pages.
• You will arrive by air, as Azerbaijan's land borders have been closed to most travellers for several years.
• Your visit is short-term, such as tourism, a family visit or business meetings. Work, study and residence in Azerbaijan need a different visa.

Required documents

• Passport: Clear colour scan of the bio-data page of your Indian passport, valid for at least 6 months beyond your date of arrival.
• Flights: Confirmed return or onward ticket showing your dates into and out of Azerbaijan.
• Accommodation: Hotel booking, tour voucher or your host's address and contact details in Azerbaijan.

Processing time

• Typical time: 6 working days after a complete application is submitted
• Plan ahead: Apply at least 2–3 weeks before you fly to Azerbaijan, and earlier during peak holiday seasons.

Before you travel

• If you stay longer than 15 days, you must register with the State Migration Service. Hotels normally handle this, but check if you stay in a private apartment.
• Travel to Azerbaijan is not possible with stamps or visas for disputed territories it does not recognise. Ask us if your passport has unusual stamps.
• The Azerbaijani manat is the local currency. Cards are widely accepted in Baku.
• Keep a printed copy of your approval and a digital copy on your phone. Airlines often check it at check-in for flights to Azerbaijan.
• Travel insurance with medical cover is strongly recommended for every trip to Azerbaijan.
